Penny Masquerade Giveaway! {CLOSED}

It's time for another giveaway! :) The Penny Masquerade etsy shop is filled with handmade, vintage style jewelry that is sure to bring a smile to your face. Sarah, the shop owner, creates unique pieces of jewelry ranging from teacup & door knocker rings, to bird cage and Alice & Wonderland necklaces. All of her pieces have a fairytale feel to them, and are definitely conversation starters.


Q&A w/ Sarah, the owner:

1. Please tell us a little about Penny Masquerade etsy shop.

Penny Masquerade etsy shop has been open since April 2010 and contains necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, hair combs, headbands and brooches all of which are inspired by vintage design. My shop is extremely colorful, vibrant and feminine and I like to think that every person who enters is taken temporarily on a little metaphorical trip to the past.

2. How did you come up with that name for your shop?

The name took a long long time to come up with! I really wanted the name to sound like a quirky designer but at the same time to conjour up images of the past. I made two columns of lists - one consisting of names I loved and the other containing words I really liked with a whimsical feel - then I went down the two lists matching a name with a word until something stuck. Penny Masquerade was the only combination I came up with that I actually loved. I love the name Penny as it reminds me of Penny Dreadful's - the 19th century macabre British serials which cost one penny for each installment. "Masquerade" was one of my favourite words because it makes me think of mysterious old masked balls and reminds me of reading Nancy Drew and The Phantom of Venice when I was little.

3. I love how all of your pieces have a vintage feel to them, would you say your own personal style is vintage?

I like to incorportate vintage inspired pieces into my personal style but I find I'm more of a mix. I wear what looks and feels good. I've never really been one for following a specific trend. I think fashion should be fun and people should just wear what they want.

4. What is your fave piece from your shop?

Ooh that's a tough one! I think it's between my Bella Necklace and my Marie Antoinette Let Them Eat Cake Necklace

5. What type of girl do you envision wearing your pieces?

I think my jewelry is perfect for young women with a love of vintage design and color. Although one of my friend's recently wrote a piece on Penny Masquerade and said she thought it was made up of "clever, pretty jewelry for clever, pretty girls". I thought that description was lovely.

6. What inspires you to create your pieces?

I'm inspired by Alice in Wonderland, fairytales, France, afternoon tea, history, pirates, nature, romance and writing. I also love the past and love to see characteristics that are apparent in vintage and antique designs in my own pieces.

7. What separates your etsy shop from the rest?

There are a lot of assemblage shops on etsy so from the offset I knew it was important to try and make my shop different somehow. I think I achieve this by using bright colors in my designs and branding - a lot of other jewelry stores I see out there seem to use very muted colors and often seem afraid to use any bold shades. I also really try hard to make my designs that bit more unusual and unique and always make sure my packaging is up to scratch. I also really look after my customers - I think that's incredibly important. I always love it when people go the extra mile for me so I hope my customers appreciate it when I do that for them.
